Quick Holiday Overview

Namibia is arguably on of the most popular destinations in Sub-Saharan Africa. Not only is the wildlife exceptional and compares favourably with its neighbouring countries, a quarter of the worls's cheetahs are found in Namibia and you will also encounter the last of the free-ranging black rhinos, one of the world's most endangered species.

Today, Namibia is home to almost half of the world's population of black rhino - most of these are found in Etosha National Park.

Namibia is an experience like no other with landscapes, deserts and a coastline that are the most photographed in the world. Traditional culture remains strong here despite successive colonial occupations by Germany and then South Africa (Namibia gained independence from the latter in 1990) and, for many visitors, meeting the Himba people in the far north-west, or the San (formerly Bushmen) of the Kalahari, is an enriching and humbling experience. With an efficient infrastructure the traveller has a recipe for invigorating, trouble-free travels.

On the Eastern fringes of Namibia, the red sands of the Kalahari beckon. This is where you will find the place of burnished sands at Kalahari Anib Lodge. Easily accessible by sedan car and 30km from Mariental, this Kalahari lodge is a good overnight stop if travelling between Windhoek and the south or continuing to the Kgalagadi.

Desert Quiver Camp

Desert Quiver Camp uniquely combines modern accommodation with comfort and style. Conveniently located a mere 5km from the entrance gate to Sossusvlei, the inspiring scenery characterised by granite outcrops, spectacular views and roaming wildlife will captivate your senses. The 24 uniquely designed units have spacious bedrooms, en-suite bathrooms, patio and private parking.  For your self-catered evening braii the patio is equipped with a barbeque facility, a fitted kitchenette with under counter fridge, 2 plate hob and a wooden bench for seating. Utility boxes with most utensils needed are available at reception and fresh food supplies can be ordered daily. Facilities at the main building include a fully stocked bar with a big screen television, a sparkling swimming pool and 2 communal boma-areas which are perfect to cater for groups travelling together.

Windhoek
Windhoek is the capital of Namibia. It is located in the Khomas Region and is a major trade centre of sheep skins. The attractive town lies at an altitude of 1650 metres in a beautiful valley bordered by the Eros Mountains in the north and the Auas mountains in the south.

The city of Windhoek is traditionally known by two names: Ai-Gams, from the Nama people which literally refers to the hot springs that were once part of Windhoek, while the second name, Otjomuise, meaning a place of steam, was given by the Herero people. Both traditional names reference the hot springs. The early settlements of Windhoek came about because of the water from the hot springs. In the mid-1800s Captain Jan Jonker Afrikaner settled near one of the main hot springs, located in the present-day Klein-Windhoek.

Windhoek is situated in a semi-desert climatic region. Days are mostly warm with very hot days during the summer months, while nights are generally cool. The winter months of June, July and August usually experience very little rain. Nights are usually cool, although the temperature seldom drops below 0C, and it almost never snows. Days are usually hot to very hot.

The influence of the German language and culture is, in many ways, still present. There are German restaurants where one can have traditional German dishes, bread and beer, and even celebrate the German carnival. Although English is the official language, one can use German just about anywhere.
