About the Holiday
  • Itinerary

  • Day 1: Budapest, Hungary

Our trip begins this evening in Hungary's grand capital, Budapest, as we meet our Trip Leader and new travel pals for a group powwow. Budapest is situated on the banks of the mighty River Danube, and is home to sights such as Heroes' Square, Parliament House, Buda Castle and main boulevard Andrássy út. Get to know your fellow travellers over a mouth-watering Hungarian feast in a local restaurant, and then kick your feet up in your comfy hotel.
    Meals: Dinner

  • Day 2: Budapest

Free day = put down your Rubik’s Cube and take on a city with enough baroque, neoclassical and art nouveau architecture to keep you puzzled for hours. Need ideas? Take to the waters at the Gellért Baths and don’t leave til you’re pruny. There are 80+ thermal springs in Budapest but this is its most famous. Wave pool, anyone?! Indulge in a spa treatment then visit the Buda Castle or House of Terror Museum. Tonight, hang with the hipsters and drink local fruit brandy at one of the original ruin bars.
    Meals: Breakfast

  • Day 3: Budapest to Krakow, Poland

Reflect on the ride to our next stop to meet Poland's beating heart – and the largest medieval town square in Europe. Get your bearings with a walk around Wawel Castle and ogle at the world's oldest shopping mall. Legend has it a dragon had to be smited in order for Krakow to be built (with a sulphur-stuffed lamb as bait). Bit tougher than the usual council approvals, no?
    Included today: Krakow walking tour
    Meals: Breakfast

  • Day 4: Krakow

Get all up in the streets of Krakow today and let the statement, "Whoever saves one life, saves the world entire" really sink in at Oskar Schindler's factory. Visit a centuries-old synagogue, discover the city's inner-hipster in the Jewish district and shop for Amber in the UNESCO World Heritage listed Cloth Hall. Your day, your choice.
    Meals: Breakfast

  • Day 5: Krakow to Prague, Czech Republic

Pay your respects and learn more about the Holocaust at the Auschwitz-Birkenau concentration camp. Next up: the medieval beauty of Prague. Fuel up on trdelník (pastry deliciousness) before a walking tour amongst spires and cobblestone streets. Suss out the castle deemed worthy by Guinness World Records as being the largest ancient castle in the world, cross medieval Charles Bridge and watch 'Death' toll the hour on an astronomical clock that's over 600 years old. After dinner, get cosy in a café with hot chocolate so thick you can stand a spoon in it or slip into an absinthe bar to meet the green fairy.
    Included today:
    -Walking tour of Prague
-Guided tour of former concentration camp Auschwitz-Birkenau
    Meals: Breakfast & Dinner

  • Day 6: Prague

Channel your inner bohemian and seek out the John Lennon memorial wall to start your free day. Soak up some more Czech history at the National Museum or Communist Museum or get a taste of the quirky local culture at a marionette puppet opera (you gotta see it to believe it). Snap a selfie at Prague’s own Eiffel Tower, visit The Museum of Miniatures, eat roast pork from one of the street vendors lining Old Town Square and drink beer. Really. Good. Beer.
    Meals: Breakfast

  • Day 7: Prague

Our trip is ending, but that doesn’t mean your time here has to. Get in touch with your boho side and stay longer to hit a high note at a jazz club, circle Wenceslas Square or reserve tickets to a show at the Prague State Opera House.
    Meals: Breakfast

Budapest is the capital of Hungary.

Modern Budapest was born in 1873, when Buda, buda and Pest were officially joined. Today, the city is composed of 23 districts (kerletek), each designated on maps, street signs and addresses by Roman numerals (I to XXIII). Buda and Pest still remain distinct, however, creating a fascinating west bank-east bank contrast. Hilly Buda in the west is laced with narrow cobbled streets and packed with a mixture of medieval and neoclassical buildingsalmost totally reconstructed after WWII. Flat Pest lies to the east, its wide boulevards and art nouveau structures testimony to the boom Budapest experienced in the years before WWI.

The Chain Bridge (Szchenyi lnchd) is the central point of Budapest. From here, hilly Buda is to the west and the plains of commercial Pest are to the east. A steep climb in the Sikl, the 19th-century funicular, leads to Budas Castle Hill, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, where many attractions are clustered.Trinity Square is at the heart of the district and usually thronging with tourists.

New clubs and discos are constantly sprouting up all over Budapest especially around VII Liszt Ferenc tr and IX Rday utca. The bars offer something for everybody and there is plenty of space to experiment. Many bars are open until dawn, although most close at around 0400. Borozs are cheap wine cellars, where it is rare to see women, especially unaccompanied. Srzs are beer houses that will also serve good and moderately priced food. The minimum drinking age is 18 years.
