Quick Holiday Overview

Explore exotic Rio de Janiero also known as the Cidade Maravilhosa (Marvellous City) with its golden beaches and lush mountains, samba-fueled nightlife and spectacular football matches. Looking out from the 710m peak of Corcovado, you will see why Rio is called the Cidade Maravilhosa (Marvelous City). Lushly forested mountains fringe the city, shimmering beaches trace the shoreline and a string of tiny islands lie scattered along the seafront. Rio's beaches have long seduced visitors. Copacabana Beach and Ipanema Beach are free and open to all, offering endless enjoyment in the form of football, volleyball, surfing, snacking, drinking or simply relaxing amid the passing parade of people.

Music is the lifeblood of Rio, with a soundtrack comprising rock, old-school bossa nova, hip-hop, funk and Brazil's many regional styles. Above all there's samba, a rapid-fire style of music with African influences and an infectious beat that is synonymous with Rio. This city knows how to party.

then onto the fabulous city of Buenos Aires known as the 'Paris of the South'! Mix together a beautiful European-like city with attractive residents, gourmet cuisine, awesome shopping, a frenzied night-life and top-drawer activities, and you get Buenos Aires, a cosmopolitan metropolis with both slick neighbourhoods and equally downtrodden areas, but that's part of the appeal. It's an elegant, seductive place with a ragged edge, laced with old-world languor and yet full of contemporary attitude. Buenos Aires is somehow strangely familiar, but unlike any other city in the world. known as 'the Paris of the South'.

Rio de Janeiro
Rio de Janeiro is the second major city of Brazil, behind only So Paulo. The city is capital of the state of Rio de Janeiro. It is famous for its spectacular natural setting, its Carnival celebrations, samba and other music, hotel-lined tourist beaches.

Guanabara Bay was reached by Portuguese explorers in an expedition led by Portuguese explorer Gaspar de Lemos on January 20, 1502; hence Rio de Janeiro, "January River". There is a legend that the mariners named the place thus because they thought the mouth of the bay was actually the mouth of a river, but no experienced sailor would make that mistake. At the time, river was the general word for any large body of water.

Rio has a Tropical climate. Though it can occasionally reach 40 C in inland areas of the city, but in the main tourist areas (south zone, where the beaches are located), the temperature is moderated by the cool sea breezes from the ocean, even during the warmest months.

Rio de Janeiro is among the biggest cities in South America, but the city is more widely renowned for the various cultural celebrations that are held there every year. The most popular of these is the Carnival, held two weeks before the traditional Christian fasting of Lent. Apart from the Carnival, New Year is also a big deal in Rio and is also one of the other major festivals. It's celebrated with several concerts and firework displays all around Rio.

Almost every kind of international cuisine is available in Rio, but the local dishes here reach their culinary heights. The diva of Rio's dishes is feijoada, a black beans and pork dish that comes with rice, kale, and manioc. Churrasco is another favourite. Waiters slice off huge hunks of barbequed beef, pork, and other meats, serving them with manioc and onions. Being close to the sea of course means an unsurpassed selection of fine sea food.

Beer seems to be served at all hours of the day and locals can often be seen enjoying a drink with friends at the corner bars that open out onto the streets in all parts of the city. Many bars and pubs have happy hours for people returning from work or the beach and most serve snacks and light meals. But the real action does not really start until around 2300, when the clubs open their doors for music and dancing and stay open until around 0400.
