About the Holiday

2 nights in absolute luxury! The Heat is on ...
Opulence takes on a new meaning at this wonderland hotel. Set among 60 acres of remote South African wilderness, this sprawling complex built in the crater of an extinct volcano is a wonderland destination where opulence in the bush takes on new meaning.

The jewel property in the Sun City resort, the Palace boasts interiors with hand-carved walls, bespoke furnishings, and ceilings that depict a classic African landscape. Outside, the imitation sea and palm fringe beach, Valley of Waves, includes a 5,600-square-meter wave pool, waterslides, sway bridge and Botanical Garden trails. A sense of adventure prevails at the 18-hole Lost City Golf Course, which features a crocodile-filled pond. There is also a chance to see the Big Five on safari tours at the adjoining Pilanesberg National Park.

Johannesburg is the largest and most populous city in South Africa. Johannesburg is the provincial capital of Gauteng, the wealthiest province in South Africa, and which has the largest economy of any metropolitan region in Sub-Saharan Africa. Johannesburg is the source of a large-scale gold and diamond trade, due to its location on the mineral-rich Witwatersrand range of hills.

The region surrounding Johannesburg was inhabited by small numbers of people and the Bantu people. When Europeans arrived in the area, small numbers of Boers and British started farms, but there was no major European settlement until the 1880s, when gold was discovered in the region, triggering a gold rush.

The city enjoys a dry, sunny climate, with the exception of occasional late afternoon downpours in the summer months of October to April. Temperatures in Johannesburg are usually fairly mild thanks to the city's high altitude. Winter is the sunniest time of the year, with cool days and cold nights.

The nightlife is focused around distinct districts, with Melville/Brixton being one of the most popular areas. Other northern suburbs (such as Rosebank, Norwood, Rivonia and Orange Grove) are also popular with more affluent party animals, while the Central Business District, Yeoville, Braamfontein and Newtown also get going after dark. Going out alone in Soweto is not advised, although do go with a local or take a guided tour or Shebeen Crawl.
